Year 9 Japanese Forum at Monash University
The Japanese excursion was definitely a memorable experience.
The day was filled with encouraging speeches and stunning performances. The forum started with a Taiko performance. I really like that they started it this way, the sound of the loud drums helped settle down the students and the performance was a beautiful taste of the amazing Japanese culture.
We had three talks to encourage us to continue learning Japanese. The people who did them had learnt Japanese as a second language and were telling us the existing opportunities Japanese has opened up for them, and why we should never lose it.
The performances in the forum included the Judo, Rakugo and the Yosakoi performances. In the second Taiko performance I had the privilege to go on stage with students from different schools and play a few tunes on the Taiko drums. The drums were really loud especially when you're that close to them! Also during the break students were allowed to get a professional calligraphy of their name.
My favourite part of the day was definitely getting to try out the big Taiko drum. But I also really enjoyed the speeches and the other performances. For anyone who is in year eight and will have the opportunity to go to the forum next year I strongly suggest you do, the day was super fun, relaxing and educational.
