Strathmore Swim Team
Over the course of this year, students have competed in three rounds of swimming carnivals. The first round was the Moonee Valley round where we defeated 5 other schools to be crowned the Moonee Valley Champions. For this carnival over 60 students participated in 72 events, 29 individual events coming first and 10 relay teams coming first. We also had 27 individual and relay events finishing second on the day, this adding to the overall result of us winning by 93 points. If students, finished first in their event they automatically qualified for the Western Metro Region, which was held in Geelong. This was a massive effort as students trained at Strathmore in the mornings twice a week and sometimes more with their individual clubs. Congratulations to all students involved.
At the Western Metro Region Swimming Carnival, we had 32 competitors compete against many different schools in both individual events and relay events. Again students needed to finish first to qualify for the State Championships; fortunately we had two students finish first for multiple events, Eva Becvinovski 10D1 and Edward Jenkins 8D2. We also had on the day 4 individuals finish second and 4 relay teams finish second.
The State Swimming Carnival was held at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC). Eva and Edward both competed in 3 events on the day. Eva finishing 5th in the 200m Freestyle, 5th in the 50m Butterfly and 6th in the 50m Backstroke and Edward finishing 6th in 50m Breaststroke, 6th in the 50m Freestyle and 5th in the 50m Backstroke. Well done on these results as there were some great swimmers and times in all events.
Another successful year for the Strathmore Swim team, thank you to all students involved and to Mr Bellis, Mr Bitmead and Mrs Murphy for helping throughout the year. Looking forward to swim training starting again in term 4.
