Year 9 Enrichment Maths and Spaghetti Trusses
The end of term 3 saw the Year 9 Enrichment Maths class design, build and scale cost trusses to hold a camera on the Mars rover - built out of spaghetti.
The aim was to build the strongest structure, for the least amount of money. They had to factor in strong shapes, angles, cost per kilogram to launch their design and cost per metre of material to construct their truss.
Some amazing creativity and design expertise was exhibited by many group members.
The Enrichment Maths class this semester is investigating the field of STEM - Science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Their focus is on finding and extending the maths associated with the Mars rover space program. More to follow in term 4.
