Our pool games were against Footscray City College and Williamstown High School. The team started confidently against Footscray in our first match controlling much of the play to create many scoring chances. Ben Gray and Jack Pelosi were the main forces and firstly Finn Pawsey netted a deflection from the right and then Ben put our second home for a 2/0 half time lead. The second half saw Footscray strike first with a goal from a short corner and then Finn put his second in to put us 3/1. Solid defense from Flynn Gray, Riley Smallacombe and Isaac Dukic kept our lead intact to the finish. Our second pool match against Williamstown saw us concede 2 first half goals from free play and a short corner deflection. The team responded after half time with concentrated attacking play to force a number of short corners and eventually a penalty stroke. Ben converted the stroke and got us level with excellent shooting from free play. Jake Smith put us in front and Jack Pelosi made it 4 for the half to make our final berth safe. The final was contested against Maribyrnong who quickly took the lead with a short corner conversion. Our defense and team play held them for the rest of the half as we missed some chances to draw level. The second half was one way attacking play from Maribyrnong Sports Academy as they opened a 4 goal lead from good team play. Our team tired and although we answered with a goal from Max Taylor their win was well deserved. A good team effort with only 10 players on the day. Great leadership from Ben Gray who was a livewire all day, starting numerous attacks and running aggressively at the opponent’s defense to create and/or convert scoring opportunities. Other consistent contributors were Flynn Gray at full back, Riley Smallacombe, Finn Pawsey (RW) and Jack Pelosi (LW). Goal scorers for the competition : Finn Pawsey 2, Ben Gray 3, Jake Smith 1, Jack Pelosi 1, Max Taylor 1.

WMR Junior Boys Hockey FinalsTuesday 29 October – Geelong Hockey Club
The Junior Boys squad were in a 5 team competition to qualify for State Finals. Round 1 was the biggest challenge against Maribyrnong Sports Academy. A quick start saw some solid team play and a Finnley Watson shot find the net for a lead. This was answered by MSA before half time. The second half saw goals to both teams with Finn scoring from a short corner as did Arham Faiyaz and then Damien Reynolds giving us a 4/3 win and the defense holding firm until full time. Game 2 was close encounter with Footscray as Finn scored 2 second half goals to run out 2/1 victors against Footscray City. Game 3 opponents Geelong opened up a 2 goal lead to set us a large challenge. Damien got us within reach and it wasn’t until a short corner rebound was put in by Arham after full time that we drew level 2/2. Our last round opponents Pt Cook had been the chopping block all day and we quickly asserted our authority to put 4 goals past the goalkeeper in the first half as Finn was dominant with 3 short corner conversions and Lucas Zoumis’s deflection at the post was number 4. George Alexopoulos scored the 5th in the second half for a spot in the State finals on November 20. Team leaders Finn Watson and Damien Reynolds were tireless contributors all day. Ashen Siriwardene and Julian Petropoulos at full back were solid performers. Ty Davis and Lav Bujak provided huge support as attacking halves. Hugo Jenkins grew in confidence each game as a wing, played good team hockey especially in the tough round 2 & 3 games. Emmanuel Filippakis, Lucas Zoumis, Cristiano Mascali, Mason Fewster and George Alexopoulos all played their role at various stages in the competition. Werribee ZooAll Year 7 Students attended Werribee Zoo this week.
Students are studying Biology this term, and are looking at how scientists classify organisms, as well as looking at the relationships between different organisms in an ecosystem. Whilst at the zoo, students were collecting first hand video footage of the animals, as well as conducting research, so they can use this information in their animal documentaries that they are planning, filming and producing this term. Students also experienced the safari bus tour, as well as a program where they looked at the food webs that the include the animals at the zoo. Science Faculty |
