60th Anniversary Open Day

A glorious Melbourne spring day ensured an overwhelming turnout of some 3000 past students and staff to our open day.

The organising committee and a large group of current staff ran events and faculty displays throughout the day. The memorabilia and class photo rooms were the highlight of the day. Past students met in these rooms, many who had not seen former classmates for many years.

An alumnus is available to past students and staff to register at http://tinyurl.com/SSCAlumni

I would like to thank all staff who attended or supported this event, and particularly the 60th Anniversary organising committee led by Colin McCraith (past student and staff). Members include; Peter Woods (past student and past staff), Di Manning (past staff), Selina Dennis (past student and current staff), Donna O’Shea (past student and current staff), Fotini Tsiatis (current staff),  Jackson St George (current staff), Claudia Phillips (current staff), Gary Cameron (current staff), and Phillip Spencer (current staff).

Reflections from Jill English, College Principal

When Strathmore Secondary College was established in 1957, the motto “Nurture and Cherish Wisdom” was chosen as it encapsulated the school’s purpose and educational philosophy.  In the intervening sixty years those words, and all they imply, remain at the heart of the ethos of the College.

While the College is proud of its well-deserved reputation for academic excellence, it also strives to foster perseverance and effort, honesty, fairness and co-operation: to recognise the inherent value of qualities which define us as human.  Our robust sporting, instrumental, choral music and performing arts programs complement our academic curriculum to achieve this.

Team Leaders and Student Co-ordinators encourage personal and social growth, overseeing our students learning and promoting effective communication between home and school.  As a school which nurtures and supports students and prizes its community, Strathmore’s co-curricular and leadership programs place students at the forefront of all decision-making.

As College Principal, I am proud to lead a passionate team of teachers who are committed to Strathmore Secondary College, to our students and who are well-versed in state-of-the-art classroom practices.

I am delighted to join with the school community on the occasion of this, the sixty-year anniversary of Strathmore Secondary College. Together, we are celebrating achievements of the past and anticipating those of the future.
