Intermediate Boys Basketball
On Tuesday the 28th of August the Intermediate Boys Basketball team travelled to Coburg Stadium to contest the regional trials.
The team faced Essendon Keilor College in their first match of the day and by half time were leading by 40 points. The boys continued the domination in the second half, running out eventual winners 89-9.
In round ,2 Strathmore encountered Mount Alexander College. The team began this match in the same fashion as the first with precision shooting and solid defence. MAC were a tougher opposition, though Strathmore defeated them by close to 50 points and gain entry into the grand final.
The grand final was played against Rosehill Secondary who were just as dominant in their opening games. Coach Matt Wain had developed a strong game plan and sent out the team to execute. Thanks to some sharp shooting from Hudson Radecki, Strathmore was up by 12 points after a minute’s play. Backed up by strong defence from Duncan James and Max D’Amato, Strathmore continued to dominate Rosehill in the first half to lead 36-9. After a short halftime break, Strathmore were back in control and held on to defeat Rosehill in the grand final and emerge as regional champions.
The team displayed outstanding sportsmanship and brilliant teamwork in all games and were deserved champions. They will now compete in the Western Metro trials in October.
