Giant Step – India
In association with World Challenge
23 November – 21 December 2016
In November, 33 Strathmore students from Years 10-11 will take a “Giant Step” They will leave the comforts of home to undertake a journey to a culturally very different region of the World, India.
Over the past few months, team members have been doing lots of activities in preparation for this adventure such as training hikes, bake sales, planning meetings and cooking up Indian food.
‘Giant Step’ is an adventurous expedition based challenge. Our travels will take us to the culturally stimulating country of India in the Himalayan and Rajasthan regions. Some of the positive outcomes team members will develop are personal leadership skills, teamwork, initiative, decision making and self-reliance through an active involvement in planning and managing the expedition. The teams will develop and undertake a community project in a regional school setting, execute a challenging trek in the Himalayan region, learn about new places, its people and cultures, while discovering the fulfillment of independent travel. Travelling to India, team members will find the trip very challenging and at times confronting, yet hugely rewarding.
