Our curriculum program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive general education in the early years of secondary school followed by the opportunity to individualise programs once students reach Year 10.
The program in Years 7 to 9 provides a sound foundation for studies in the senior years. It allows student flexibility in subject breadth, together with opportunities for extension and challenge.
In Year 10 students are free to choose their own programs. They also have the option of enrolling in VCE subjects.
Year 11 and 12 students have access to a wide range of VCE subjects.
Our focus on achievement and success, complemented by the comprehensive support provided to students, increases the breadth of post school options to which our students have access. Some Particular Curriculum Interests:
Involvement of students in the performing arts has long been part of College life. Our Performing Arts students have the opportunity to take part in a range of productions where they are encouraged to act, dance, compose music, write scripts, choreograph, sing or be involved back stage.
Our Music program is widely recognised for its quality. We offer tuition in over 23 instruments and students are able to join one of our many orchestras and ensembles where they have the opportunity to perform at a wide range of concerts and community events.
Physical Education and Sport Strathmore is renowned for the success of its Physical Education Program. We have a record of sustained achievement in swimming, athletics, cross country and a range of individual and team sports. Although success in competitive sport is important to us, our fundamental objective is to promote within students an interest in, and enjoyment of, practices that support a healthy lifestyle.
Human Relations is part of the Health and Physical Education program and is an important component of our work in encouraging student well-being.
Sport is compulsory for all students in Years 7 – 10. During these sessions students select from a range of sporting and recreational activities.
LOTE (Languages other than English)
The College’s LOTE program offers three languages – Greek, Italian and Japanese.
We strongly endorse the value of learning a second or even third language and encourage students to continue their language studies to the end of secondary school.
Within the program students enjoy cultural activities and excursions, they enter various competitions, interact with overseas students who visit the College and are able to participate in International study tours.
The Victorian Space Science Education Centre (VSSEC)
VSSEC was conceived, designed and is now run by members of our Science department. It has been established to promote greater interest in science by providing engaging, hands on activities for students. The College works in partnership with a range of Universities, NASA, the European Space Agency and other leading institutions in developing programs that are scientifically rigorous and at the same time enjoyable and of relevance to students.
