Bright Young Minds
On Thursday 20th April, 31 Year 11 VCE physics students attended the Bright Young Minds event at IMAX in Melbourne CBD.
This featured a special screening of the all new smash hit documentary film "The Search for Life in Space 3D", filmed using imagery from some of the most powerful telescopes in the world, together with computer modelling of distant galaxies and solar systems, and produced specifically for IMAX theatres. This was followed by an exclusive Q&A session with astronomer and TV science communicator Dr Alan Duffy from Swinburne University.
Dr Duffy is a research fellow and associate professor at Swinburne University. He has also worked with The University of Melbourne, The University of Western Australia, and The Jodrell Bank Centre for Astrophysics, however he will probably be most recognisable from his television work, most recently appearing on Stargazing Live on the ABC.
Students from SSC had the opportunity to ask questions and discuss Dr Duffy’s work with him. The experience links to work on spectral analysis they have completed as part of the Unit 1 VCE Physics course.
