Big Band Hotel Gig
Thursday 14th September once again saw the Post Office Hotel in Coburg as the venue for our Music Department Annual Big Bands Hotel Gig. Students from both D13 and M1 Big Bands arrived at the hotel at around 6.30 ready to entertain family, friends, teachers and the local punters for the evening.
The front bar stage at The Post Office Hotel has not expanded during the last year so it was a tight squeeze to fit all our musicians but, true to real life performances, the students made it happen!
D13, under the direction of lower brass teacher Dave Palmer, played the first set and showed the audience that a young band can certainly play great tunes. They finished off with a bang – party poppers! M1, directed by trumpet teacher Tim Fisher, played the second set and had the whole audience toe tapping and enjoying themselves immensely.
Thanks to all the teachers who came along on the night to show their support, especially Mark Daniell, who filled in to play alto saxophone for the M1 Band. Thanks also to the management and staff at The Post Office Hotel and Ginger Zhang for her photography.
Farewell and a huge thanks to our Year 12 Big Band students: Emre Akin, Paddy Bushell, Emma Conley, Jack O’Connor, Helena Xuereb and Abe Zhang. You will all be missed!
Until next year...
