Baseball State Finals
Senior & Intermediate Boys – 24 & 25 MAY
Both teams had early leaving times of 7.45am to travel across town to the Knox Baseball fields. Unfortunately due to bad traffic caused us a 2 hour return trip and a 6.00pm return to school. A long day for all.
Day 1 - Senior Boys
The senior boys played 3 competitive pool games for 2 wins and a 1/5 loss to Parkdale to achieve a #1 ranking and a place in the final against a strong Mildura unit who had flown down that morning to play in the competition.
Their strong defence and pitching proved decisive as only Iluka and Danya hit safely in the 4 innings game for 0 runs. Meanwhile Oliver Nicholas pitched well to keep them to 5 runs in his 2 innings and then their strong hitting got hold of Danya to push their tally out to a 12/0 Mildura win.
State runners up was a just return for a good Strathmore unit.
Day 2 - Intermediate Boys
A more overcast day on Wednesday with late showers coming just as we finish our third pool game, a strong 15/11 win over Lavalla Catholic College.
The boys had some tough competition with a strong McKinnon squad running out 12/1 winners behind a State level pitcher. Camberwell then duplicated the result for another 12/1 result behind some good defence and strong pitching. We limited their scoring in each game for 3 of the 4 innings but they finished the games strongly to double their scoring in the last dig.
Our third game was an even contest behind the debut pitching performance from Sean Callander. Only 1 run separated the teams each inning until the last when aggressive hitting from the whole line up saw 6 runs cross the plate, enough to give us the result 15/11.
