Intermediate Interschool Baseball Year 9 & 10
An early leave on Wednesday 3 May at 8.00am and a pleasant bus trip to Geelong for the Western Zone finals.
The boys warmed up on a wet ground for their first match against Copperfield. They dominated the game scoring 13 runs while striking out 7 of the 9 Copperfield hitters who came to bat. McLeod Sell and Bailey Marcola pitched with good control in wet conditions while our better hitters were Jack Raines, Lachlan Eilers, Bailey Marcola and McLeod Sell.
Result: Win 13/0
Game 2 saw a similar result against Williamstown for a 14/0 win. McLeod & Bailey shared the pitching to shut out the opposition with a combination of infield outs and strike outs. Leaders with the bat were Bailey, Liam Conley, Tommy Karagiannis, Peter Cook and Jack Raines.
The final with Maribyrnong Sports Academy was a pitcher dominated game, with their defence too strong as they held us scoreless with few hitters able to get bat on ball, the exception was Jack Raines who hit the ball hard. McLeod struggled with his control early on the mound, but kept us in the game limiting them to 8 runs over 3 innings.
Runner Up at Western Zone was a fair result for our ability on the day.
The senior team had a wet start on Monday 8 May with showers and overcast skies greeting us as we arrived in Geelong.
A quick warm up prepared us for our match with Williamstown on a sub-standard ground in wet conditions. We tried our hardest but made a few too many defensive errors in a short game to go down 1/4 behind the battery of Connor Dawson to Isabelle Garvin. Hits to Ben Reddick scored our only run with Will Ingleton and Nick Curtis both making good contact.
Game 2 was a one sided match with an inexperienced Suzanne Corey Secondary College. Their poor pitching and fielding saw an easy 19/2 win. Will Ingleton to Isabelle Garvin proved beyond their hitters as they led our defence. Our team all hit the ball hard with Connor, Oliver and Jack making the best contact.
Our baseball captain Connor Dawson was an excellent role model on the day and a special mention to Isabelle Garvin (catcher) and Renee Tierney making their debut with the baseball team.
