Athletics Carnival 2017
The Year 7 and 8 Athletics Carnival was held on Friday the 4th of August at Aberfeldie Athletics Track. Despite the cold weather, the rain stayed away which made it a very pleasant day for all. The students were full of enthusiasm and it was a wonderful opportunity for them to get out and experience firsthand what an Athletics Carnival is all about.
Although Athletics is mainly an individual event, there was a great team feeling on the day. The carnival has a long tradition where the students have the opportunity to earn points for their team (Argyll, Burnet, Chisholm, Dunlop and Stirling). Each competitor received points for the events they participated in and further points were awarded to place getters.
Throughout the day students participated in a variety of track and field events, including the 100m, 1500m, Long Jump and Discus. Using the results from the heats, we held a 100m final for each age group, which was one of the highlights of the day, with all students watching and applauding their team mates on. The entire day ran smoothly and it was great to see the students participate to the best of their abilities and achieve superb results, including some personal bests. The carnival concluded with the 4×100m relay which was really exciting to watch with students running at a lightning fast pace!
Well done to all students involved and for those who placed and were awarded with ribbons. A big congratulations to Argyll for winning the Athletics Trophy for the first time in over 20 years, I’ve never seen Ms Di Battista so excited!!
Thank you to all of the Coaching and Fitness students for their help with the running of the day. Also, a special thank you to all teachers who attended the day and allowed it to run so smoothly!
