9A2 Mission to Mars
Earlier this term 9A2 were lucky to participate in the mission to Mars program at VSSEC.
The program is designed to complement the students’ studies across all areas of science and also immerse them in a simulated mission to the Mars surface.
The students were assigned jobs to carry out within the mission, two of the commanders on the day wrote a summary of the events as they unfolded.
Mission to Mars is a great opportunity for all year 8 and 9 students.
The mission shows a realistic version of what it would be like to be on mars and in the mission control room back home.
Students in the control room soon realised how heavily the astronauts relied on them and how their job was just as important as the astronauts, if not more.
Mission control officers communicate via radio to the astronauts on Mars, and are responsible for the safety of the astronauts and success of the mission.
