Year 7 & 8 Athletics Carnival
The Year 7 and 8 Athletics Carnival was held on Tuesday the 21st of August at Moonee Valley Athletics Track. The students were full of enthusiasm and it was a wonderful opportunity for them to get out and experience firsthand what an Athletics Carnival was all about.
Although Athletics is mainly an individual event, there was a great team feeling on the day. The carnival has a long tradition where the students have the opportunity to earn points for their team (Argyll, Burnet, Chisholm, Dunlop, Napier and Stirling). Each competitor received points for the events they participated in and further points were awarded to place getters.
Throughout the day students participated in a variety of track and field events, including the 100m, 1500m, Long Jump and Discus. Using the results from the heats, we held a 100m final for each age group which was one of the highlights of the day, with all students watching and applauding their team mates on. The entire day ran smoothly and it was great to see the students participate to the best of their abilities and achieve superb results, including some personal bests. The carnival concluded with the team vs team 4×100m relay, which also included a Teacher’s team and a Coaching and Fitness team. It was exciting to watch and be a part of the relay! Of course, the teachers finished first, albeit with some cheating!
A big congratulations to all students involved and for those who placed and were awarded with ribbons. The Athletics Trophy will be awarded to the winning team at the next Team Assembly.
Thank you to all of the Coaching and Fitness students for their help with the running of the day. Also, a special thank you to all teachers who attended the day and allowed for it to run so smoothly!
