94 music students headed off the Rutherford Park Country Retreat last Wednesday to attend the annual Music Camp.
Over the 3 days of Music Camp students spent heaps of time playing through some new and some well-known arrangements of music in Guitar Orchestra, String Orchestra, Concert Band and Big Band. The senior students also became the directors of small ensembles for their instruments and prepared their own groups as part of a “progressive concert” on the Thursday.
Special entertainment consisted of Robert Street, from Charisma Dance Centre, who ran a Latin Dance workshop on the Wednesday night, and Mal Webb (Oxo-Cubans fame), who is a vocal adventurer. Mal educated and entertained us with Beat Boxing and all things vocal.
A huge thank you to the 15 Instrumental Music Teachers and Luke Steward, who all came up to the camp for a day or more to teach, mentor and share their love of music with the students.
Thanks also to every one of the participating students whose enthusiasm and impeccable behaviour made the camp fun for the staff too – this means I can book the camp again for next year!
