WARR WAN WOALL PROGRAM
2008 will see the introduction of an alternative program for Year 9 students. This program is designed to encourage students to undertake self directed tasks related to studies in all curriculum areas. This cross curriculum experience will provide students with the opportunity to develop initiative, and strengthen communication and interpersonal skills. It will facilitate individual learning and an awareness of self, both as a learner and as a member of the larger community.
The title of the program, “Warr Wan Woall”, comes from words of the Wurundjeri people who were the original owners of the land where Strathmore Secondary College is located. The meaning of these words; “You” and “I” and “They” reflect the underlying theme of the program – me as a learner and me and my community.
There will be two core components within the program. These components are divided into two three week blocks, running in Terms 2 and 3. Students will complete Program A: “Me as a Learner” and Program B: “Me as a Member of my Community”. The programs will incorporate learning activities such as Mission to Mars at VSSEC; My brain and how it works; How do I learn best?; Community Service; SCOPE workshops; Rural vs City comparisons; State Library visits; The Shrine; The National Sports Museum; Walkin’ Birrarung, Hunting and Gathering at the Queen Vic Market and many more!!!!!
The dates of the programs are as follows:
May 12 to May 30 2008
