The slogan, “Gardons La Flamme Ardente!” (“Let Us Keep The Flame Burning”) was adopted as our motto. For the majority of us, it wasn’t until we were at the Somme that we realised the significance of this. When we saw the many signs and posters that said, “Do Not Forget Australia”, we were touched that they were expressing a sentiment that the French people have held on to for over ninety years and a sentiment that we reciprocated with our motto.
