Bridget Novak - Exchange Student to Canada
"I've always dreamed of travelling, no matter where to, and going on exchange was probably one of the best decisions I've made in my life...so far.
I feel as if I've been introduced to a whole heap of new emotions and senses that changed me for life. Meeting and making new friends at school in Canada as well as meeting the other Australians from all different states allowed me to expand my horizons in a way I deemed impossible as I was opened up to new cultures and life stories and it was just mind blowing knowing that all these kids my age have been living their lives just as I have but on the other side of the world or just hours away from my original home.
It was so exciting being one of "the Australians" and introducing my culture to the Canadians. We were constantly asked to say certain words and phrases and I remember I was once asked if we "have xbox in Australia". I was introduced to some French and as my three months was coming to a close I was able to communicate briefly with host-family members and friends. I remembered looking forward to snow so much but it didn't snow until after Christmas, causing all the Canadians to blame global warming for it's late arrival...which is actually quite true, which helped the other Australians and I to open our eyes to how much of an issue it actually is.
To this day I still keep in touch with the many friends I made over there as well as my host family and the other Australians. No amount of words do my experience any justice, the moments I had will forever stay with me.”
