Enrolment › Frequently Asked Questions

If you have a question about the enrolment process at Strathmore Secondary College, the answer could be here:

How do I apply for enrolment at Strathmore Secondary College?

If you are applying for a place in Year 7 for the 2010 school year, parents with students in Grade 6 who are attending either a Government primary school or an independent primary school will receive the relevant documentation through your Transition Coordinator in early April 2009. The forms, which were issued by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, are to be filled out and returned to your primary school by the specified date. The forms will then be forwarded to the College.

If you are applying for a place at Year 8-12 the application forms for 2010 will be placed on our website at the end of July 2009.

What are the enrolment requirements for entry into the College?

Enrolment at Strathmore Secondary College is directed by Government policy. The Victorian Department of Education and Early Childhood Development has recognised that the College does not have the ability to satisfy demand and as a result the Regional Director has put in place an enrolment ceiling. This means that Strathmore has a limited capacity to enrol students from beyond its neighbourhood boundary or zone.

I live out of the zone. Can I still apply for entry into Strathmore Secondary College?

Yes, you may still apply for entry into the College. However, you will need to apply on a curriculum grounds basis. Once all applicants from within the zone have been placed, the College will look at applications made with a sibling claim and then on curriculum grounds.

The number of applicants accepted on sibling or curriculum grounds varies each year depending on the number of applications the College receives from within the zone.

I do not currently live in the zone, but I will be moving into the area shortly. Can I still apply for entry into Strathmore Secondary College?

Yes, you can, however, it is preferred that you put forward your application once you have moved. Your application will be processed once the College is provided with evidence to show that the new address is now the child's permanent place of residence.

Is there a waiting list, and if so, how do I get onto it?

Strathmore Secondary College only accepts enrolment applications on a year by year basis; that is you cannot apply for enrolment any earlier than the year before commencement. We use waiting lists at the end of the application process to fill the spots left vacant as a result of a rejected offer or by a student who has exited the College.

Is there an entrance exam to qualify for enrolment at Strathmore Secondary College?

No, Strathmore Secondary College does not use an entrance exam as a way of selecting students. Once a student has been enrolled at Year 7 they are asked to sit a short English and math test to identify whether they will benefit from either an extension or support program in either of these areas.

I need to enrol my child into a secondary school right away. What do I do?

Contact the College and request an enrolment application form for the year level you wish to enrol. Once the form has been returned, with all the relevant documentation, your application will be reviewed.
