Our curriculum program is designed to provide students with a strong general education in the early years of secondary school followed by the opportunity to fully individualise programs once students reach Year 10.
In Years 7 to 9 students complete core studies of English, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography, Sport and Personal and Physical Development. In addition they select from a range of Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Technology, LOTE (a choice of Italian, Greek or Japanese) and enrichment studies.
Students also have the opportunity to enrich their Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) skills through our Notebook Program.
In Year 10, students are largely free to chose their own programs. They also have the option of completing VCE subjects as a form of extension.
Year 11 and 12 students have a large range of VCE subjects from which to chose as well as the opportunity to join our VCAL program.

Strathmore has long been renowned for the quality of its sporting program. Our faculty members include a large number of highly qualified sports men and women. We have a record of sustained success in swimming, athletics, cross country and a range of individual and team sports. Although success in competitive sport is important to us, our fundamental objective is to promote within students an interest in, and enjoyment of, healthy living and practices that support a healthy lifestyle. Our physical education program includes not just physical activities but food and health (in which students prepare a range of healthy meals) and human relations.
Sport is compulsory for all students in Years 7 to 10. During these sessions students select from a range of sporting and recreational activities.

Involvement of students in the performing arts has long been a part of College life. Our Performing Arts department stage a musical production every year in which students are encouraged to act, dance, play an instrument, compose music, write scripts, choreograph, sing, or be involved back stage. Students also take part in a range of smaller performances developed as part of the teaching program.
Our Music department is acknowledged as outstanding. We offer tuition in over 23 instruments. Students are able to join one of our many orchestras or ensembles where they have the opportunity to perform at concerts, community events and various school functions. |

VSSEC was conceived, designed and is now run by members of our Science department. It has been built to promote greater interest in the learning of science by providing engaging, hands on activities for students.
The College works in partnership with Latrobe, RMIT, Victoria and Monash universities, NASA and the European Space Agency together with other leading institutions in developing programs that are scientifically rigorous and at the same time enjoyable and engaging.
VSSEC works in collaboration with our Science and Maths departments to develop, trial and implement a range of new programs. We are currently working with Monash and Sydney universities on a Robotics program for students in Years 7 to 10. |

Over the last three years Strathmore has been part of the Centre of Excellence in LOTE (CeLOTE) project facilitated by Professor Joe Lo Bianco from the University of Melbourne. The project’s research has centred on identifying the elements of a successful LOTE program covering Grade Prep to VCE. The quality of our LOTE staff, combined with the additional knowledge gained from the CeLOTE study, enable us to address the importance of learning a second (or even third) language and encourage students to continue their language studies to the end of secondary school.
Within the program students enjoy cultural activities and excursions, they enter various competitions and contests, interact with overseas students who visit the College and are able to participate in international study tours.
Strathmore LOTE students have received awards in Dante Alighieri, Excellence in Italian, Excellence in Japanese, Video Speech Contest and Webpage Design over the last few years. |
