Western Metropolitan Region Baseball Finals
Year 7 Boys
The Year 7 Boys Baseball Squad travelled to Geelong on Thursday 3 November to contest the WMR Finals.
Their first match was against a competitive Grovedale team and behind the pitching of Wil Swidryk proved too strong in a 3 innings match. Strong hitting from Cooper Newton 2, Wil 2, Ben Gray 2, saw 4 runs cross the plate while Wil pitching to Hunter kept Grovedale to 2 runs conceding 2 hits and 4 walks while striking out 4.
The second match was a less successful outcome as pitching and catching inconsistency spread to some poor at bats to bring an 8/10 loss against Creekside. The hitting was led by Cooper Newton, Max Taylor, Nick Owens and Zane Murphy. Overall, an experience that the boys can build on in future years.
Result – Runner Up WMR. Thanks to Renee Tierney, Sean Goodman and Daniel (Student Teacher).

Year 8 Boys
The Year 8 squad travelled to Geelong on Friday 4 November for their WMR Finals.
Following a bus malfunction on the way to Geelong the team met their first challenge with an impressive 2/1 win over Maribyrnong Sports Academy (MSA) in Round 1. McLeod Sell was outstanding on the mound keeping the MSA hitters off balance with his change-up / fastball combinations. He struck out 6 conceeding 0 hits and 4 walks. Brodie Wise caught a good match helping McLeod to make a crucial 2-1 play to deny a drawn result. Our hitting struggled against the strong MSA pitcher but aggressive base running brought 2 runs across the plate and that was enough for a win.
Game 2 - in our pool matches saw an enthusiastic Sunbury side out hustle us to come out 8/2 winners. Our defence, both pitching, catching and fielding was poor in this game contributing to their 8 runs in large way. We hit well enough early but ran the bases poorly and our last innings let us down badly as we failed to score. Leaders were McLeod Sell 2 hit (HR), Bailey 1, Jack Raines 2, Harry Houston 1, Brodie Wise 1, Will Marshall 2.
Game 3 - saw Creekside dominate us as their pitcher was too strong and we struggled to take our chances defensively, catching and fielding poorly. Patrick Logan and Bailey Marcola (HR) got our 2 safe hits as we were beaten 1/11 failing to qualify for the final. More training and work next year if we are to meet the challenges presented at this level.
Thank you to Danya Liaw (Baseball Captain) for his assistance on the day.
